History of CALL
Large mainframe computers were used during the 2nd World War (the 1940s) for missile guidance and cryptography and were thus involved with language processes from the very start.
By the virtue of programming languages and improved systems that were developed throughout 1950-60s, the electronic corpus was put into service.
New microcomputers had emerged and presented a better range of possibilities for learners.
In the 1990s, the development of powerful computers with the support of rapid internet evoked the current stage of CALL, precisely Integrative CALL.
Prevalence of instant internet access led to many cases of computer-assisted language learning activities.
Directly related to the prior element, Age of Technological Education gained speed and popularity through web-based activities.

21st Century Learning
The 21st century brought and is still bringing along new innovations. Phones and computers have gotten their places in our daily lives incredibly easily, and the globalized world is completely dependent on technology. The main question is, can these innovations be used for educational purposes?
The benefits of technology can be seen in almost every part of our lives. Technology has always been used and integrated into our classrooms with or without an internet connection since the second quarter of the 20th century and it has been increased drastically since then, especially after the widespread access to a working internet connection and the internet can be very useful when it is used properly. Online blogs, videos of online classes, vocabulary applications -namely on smartphones- and access to a great pool that is comprised of countless books help students and/or learners with their language learning.
Having said that, there are essential skills for learners and they are called 4Cs:
- Creativity and Innovation
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- Communication
- Collaboration
